All patients exhibiting symptoms of stroke are triaged as a patient for Stroke Alert. When this determination is made, numerous things will begin to happen quickly. The team of nurses, emergency physicians, neurologists, radiologists, critical care doctors, surgeons and others can make treatment determinations within 60 minutes of symptom presentation.
If you're seeking your doctor's advice during a scheduled appointment, your doctor will evaluate your risk factors for stroke and heart disease. Your discussion will focus on avoiding these risk factors, such as not smoking or using illegal drugs. Your doctor also will discuss lifestyle strategies or medications to control high blood pressure, cholesterol and other stroke risk factors.

They are giving my son money from his ssa and he has nothing to show for it everytime he gets money he uses it for drugs. he goes looking for receipts and says hes spending it for his daughters but if he buys anything he usually sells it or loses it becuz he gets so wasted on drugs and he does not remember cuz hes mental supposedly but he sure remembers where to get his drugs and where to go til they burn him and take his money.  Then he can go back to around the clock and tell them another lie and do it til hes dead.  But that is not of their concern.  Good luck

Mayo Clinic doctors trained in blood vessel and brain conditions (cerebrovascular neurologists), blood vessel conditions and imaging (endovascular surgical neuroradiologists), blood vessel conditions and brain surgery (vascular neurosurgeons), physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatrists), emergency medicine and other areas work together to promptly diagnose and treat people who have had strokes, and to prevent strokes in people who are at risk of strokes.

When someone is having symptoms of a stroke – slurred speech, sudden leg or arm weakness, facial drooping, loss of balance or visual changes – getting them to the hospital quickly can mean the difference between recovery and permanent disability. One of the best treatments for ischemic stroke is treatment with the clot-busting drug, intravenous tissue plasminogen activator, or IV tPA. If given in the first three hours after the start of stroke symptoms, IV tPA has been shown to significantly reduce the effects of stroke and lessen the chance of permanent disability. UofL Hospital Stroke Center staff strive to deliver IV tPA to appropriate patients within 45 minutes to one hour from the time they arrive at the hospital.
Surgical AVM removal. Surgeons may remove a smaller AVM if it's located in an accessible area of your brain, to eliminate the risk of rupture and lower the risk of hemorrhagic stroke. However, it's not always possible to remove an AVM if its removal would cause too large a reduction in brain function, or if it's large or located deep within your brain.

Decision: A ‘decision’ regarding the type of treatment needed is the next step in caring for a patient with a stroke. Information, such as the type of stroke which has occurred and the time from onset of symptoms, is considered before a treatment decision is made. The severity of the stroke may also play a role in deciding what the most appropriate treatment will be. The patient and family members should also be informed of the risks and benefits of treatment options.

This is information we require providers to send us at least once annually to give some key information about the service, what the service does well and improvements they plan to make.
